I followed up with OGX Coconut Water Conditioner and rinsed with cold water to seal my hair cuticles

  • During each rinse, I used the Generic Value Products Purple Shampoo to remove brassiness and tone down the yellow that comes with lightening my hair.
  • I was lucky and only missed some small spots on the back of my head so I just did a quick touchup round and was ready to go. If you do it this way, you have to be prepared to do a touch-up round, because no matter how much you think you've coated, you will most likely miss a spot. Then I went back over with the tint brush to apply the product to any areas of my hair that looked like they weren't fully covered.

I applied the lightening mixture with my hands, as if I was shampooing my hair, making sure to rub the product into my roots and scalp to ensure full coverage of my roots.

  • Alternatively, you could do what I did, which is not the best way but it is a way.
  • Let it sit for another 10–15 minutes and then rinse it out. After your roots are done, section your hair out in 1–2 inch sections using clips and apply the bleach mixture using your gloved fingers to rub it in. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it out. You may need a friend to help you with the back of your head, but with this product you need to work very, very quickly. Once you finish that layer, lift it up and put it to the other side, so that you can do the section underneath. Do your roots first: Start where your natural part is and paint the mixture on.
  • I think the best way to apply the mixture while keeping your hair neat and not missing any pieces is to use the tint brush.
  • Lightening products work quickly already, so you have to work fast or be prepared to apply and rinse out sections of your hair at a time instead of your whole head.
  • From here there are a couple of ways to apply the product.
  • The more you mix it the smoother it gets. The texture of the mixture looked like a chalky paste. I used the tint brush to mix it together.

The next day, I mixed a 1:1 ratio of 20 volume developer with the creme lightener in the bowl.If you have residual products such as gel, hairspray, mousse, etc in your hair, it will mess with the lightening or coloring that you are doing and it may not take evenly. First, I took a shower the night before to ensure that any hair styling product were out of my hair.

This color does need to be mixed with a developer though as I mentioned earlier, so don't forget to pick one up if you go with a line like Ion or any other professional range at Sallys.

it gets my hair insanely dark and lasts for a pretty decent amount of time on me, despite my hair being so damaged and washing it so often. This black color is also one of my favorites too. And because of my erm, not so great haircut recently, a lot of my black hair now falls where my bangs are and looks a bit silly so this seems to disguise that a bit more which is nice.

Not to mention, these tubes that the Brights colors come in definitely are much more hassle free than the Manic Panic tubs, which always make my bathroom a rainbow mess after I've used them.Īnnnnd here's the finished result! Okay, I guess I did go a bit too dark with the purple as its barely noticeable here, but it will fade out soon. I really love Ions colors because you seem to get a ton of product for the price you pay as far as the wacky colors go, and the color pay off for each range is really awesome and professional in my opinion. In this case, I went with my usual jet black shade for my hair from Ion's Color Brilliance Permanent Liquid line in the color 1V Jet Black, and a mix of Sky Blue and Red from their Brilliance Brights Semi-Permanent range for my bangs. I've been putting red in them for a while now and I'm kinda getting burned out by the whole "fade to pink in 3 days" thing, so this time around I wanted to go with something much darker and hopefully, a bit more lasting. This time around I had to touch up my black again after two long months of letting it fade out as usual, and wanted to change up my bangs as well. I know I know, I need to decide on a hair color already right? Meh, I'm sort of working on it, its just too fun to change it up all the time (and I get waaay too bored with the same thing all the time).
